About

What’s this website for?

This idea started when I was frustrated with general chemistry concepts, and I wanted a more user-friendly way to explain complicated ideas. I also started doodling in my notebooks.

A note on science:

Even though I claimed to love science for a long time, I don’t think I properly appreciated it until recently. In fact, I’m still learning exactly what science is.

So far, I’ve found that science is observing something, writing down what you observe, then asking other people look, too, and see if they observe the same thing.

Science is not an absolute. In fact, most (but not all) things in life aren’t absolute or black and white. It’s dynamic and rather nuanced. I believe there is only one truth at any given moment, but we may not be aware of that truth. We can only observe, think hard about what we saw, and guess. A science textbook or paper is only our best estimate of that truth based on what we observe. I once had a teacher who said, “Yeah, this part of the textbook is wrong, because my team and I just disproved it.” Respect those textbooks and research papers because they’re the best we have at the moment. But be open to the idea that they are not set in stone.

Who am I?

A scientist, epicure, and person of faith.

Inspiration

These lovely folks are my inspiration, and I must give credit where credit is due.

  • God – for inventing the universe.
  • Bitesize bio – it’s a good website that’s helped me a lot. Go see it.
  • Conner Fawcett (@badbucket) – for inspiring some of the illustrations.
  • Khan Academy – for carrying me through many a math problem.
  • School – I grudgingly admit that it’s useful.
